Carrying your yoga mat to class can be a pain unless you have a bag or mat carrier. If you want to save some money, you can actually use a yoga strap to double as a mat carrier. This makes it easy to take both your mat and strap to class without needing a bag.

Follow these easy step-by-step instructions with your own strap and mat.

How to Make a Mat Carrier from a Yoga Strap with a Buckle or D Ring

Most yoga straps feature one end with a d-ring or buckle and the other end is flat. These can easily be converted to create a mat carrying strap.

Step 1: Roll up your yoga mat

Step 2: Take your strap and pull the opposite end through the buckle or d-rings to form a loop. (If your strap has two d-rings, feed it through both at once.)

Step 3: Slide the loop over one end of your rolled yoga mat and tighten it until it’s snug

Step 4: Take the other end of your yoga strap and wrap it around the opposite end of your mat. Use the free end to tie a knot, forming a snug loop around the mat.

That should form a “strap” that you can carry or sling over your shoulder.

How to Make a Mat Carrier from a Yoga Strap with Two D Rings

A yoga strap with a D-ring on both ends is less common but makes carrying your mat even easier as you don’t have to tie any knots.

Step 1: Roll up your yoga mat

Step 2: Take one end of your yoga strap. Push one end of the fabric through the d ring so it forms a loop.

Sept 3: Repeat step two on the opposite end of the yoga strap.

Step 4: Slide the loops on each side of your yoga mat.

Step 5: Sling the strap over your shoulder and head to yoga class.

Pretty simple!
